A LABOR OF LOVE

What began as a century-old building layered with decades of alterations required far more than cosmetic change. Walls were added and removed, forgotten spaces cleared, original floors restored, and historic details uncovered piece by piece.

The result is a space where history remains visible—now elevated with quiet, intentional luxury.

Quiet luxury, thoughtfully restored, richly designed, and entirely unexpected—The Harkness Hotel is the kind of place you remember, and return to again & again.

WELCOME TO THE HARKNESS HOTEL

A BUILDING REMEMBERED

Before restoration began, time had left its mark in visible ways. Furniture sat where it had been abandoned, layers of dust settled into forgotten corners, and portions of the roof were beginning to cave in. As floors were carefully peeled back, newspapers from the early 1900s—once used as insulation—were discovered between the boards, many of which are now preserved and displayed within the hotel.

Original wood floors were uncovered and restored, unique building methods revealed, and in one room a portion of the wall is intentionally left open to showcase the beautiful vintage slatting hidden for decades.

The transformation required an extraordinary investment of time, vision, and labor—thousands of man hours dedicated to preserving what could be saved and rebuilding what could not. Walls were removed and added, structural elements reinforced, and every detail approached with respect for the building’s past.

The project was made possible through the generous support and countless hours contributed by family, friends, and members of the community. While photographs offer a glimpse into the change, the true scope of the transformation is something best experienced in person.

When the Middle of Nowhere is the Best Hotel Location

Idaho Business Review

McCammon is not really the middle of nowhere, nestled between the scenic Portneuf and Bannock Ranges; but to be honest, it’s not Sun Valley or Coeur d’Alene. In a valley with more cattle than people, the town is not the sort of place to find a luxurious award-winning boutique hotel with an international reputation, right?
